Bhubaneswar | Opposition BJP members today expressed serious concern in the Odisha Assembly over the incident of two tribal minor school girls delivering babies in government run hostels within last 14 days and demanded a statement from the concerned minister.
A class VI student of Umuri Ashram School in Jeypore block of Koraput district delivered a boy on February 4 just 12 days after a class ten student of a school at Lingada in Kandhamal district became mother of a boy.
Raising the issue during zero hour Mr Rabinarayan Mallik (BJP) said in the residential schools the tribal girls were being sexually exploited by Head Masters and teachers.
He said there was neither any system to monitor nor regular check up of the activities of the schools. The welfare officers were posted only at the district level and not in Block level. Mr Naik demanded the Speaker to admonish the government and direct the Minister concerned to make a statement in the house on the incident.
His party colleague Radharani Panda said the girls were not secured in residential schools and described the incidents as a serious one. She urged the Speaker to direct the government to take strict action against the guilty. Mr Suryanarayan Patro (BJD) said the president of the Kasturaba Girls school at Gudiali village in Ganjam district had lodged a complaint that Cashier of the school had taken nude photographs of around 7 to eight girls.
Mr Patro said the incident had happened around a week back and was widely reported in media. He hoped that Women and Child Development Minister Usha Devi must have visited the place and urged the Speaker to direct the Minister to apprise the house about the incident and the action taken against the Cashier.
