Kozhikode | Kerala bagged the gold in women’s volleyball in the 35th National Games defeating Karnataka 3-1 at V K Krishna Menon Indoor Stadium in the 35th National Games here today. In the neck and and encounter that lasted in four sets, the host bt the neighbour 29-19, 23-25, 26-24, 25-12 with cheering by a capacity crowd.
Launching the attack Terin Antony scored the first point through her service dominating the first set. Karntaka won the second set giving a tough fight to the host which put up a equal fight till six points. However, Kerala maintained its supremacy in the third and four sets scoring 25-12 in the last set. Karntaka, which stood second, walked away with silver. Earlier Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu won bronze in men and women volleyball in the loser’s final. Rajasthan boys trounced Services 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19.
In women’s category, Tamil Nadu tumbled Uttar Pradesh 25-20, 25-17, 25-15. Brief score: Ker bt Kar 3-1 (29-19, 25-23, 26-24, 25-12. Men: Raj bt SVC 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19. Loser’s final: Women: TN bt UP 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-15. Kerala men and women will take on Karnataka and Tamil Nadu respectively in the final later in the day.
Apart from the capacity gallery, large number of people witnessed the encounter on video screen out side the stadium. Video screen was also installed at nearby E M Stadium to enable the people to watch the volleyball final.
