Kannur | A 52-year-old BJP worker succumbed to head injuries this morning while undergoing treatment at KMC Hospital at Mangalore. He suffered head injuries in an alleged stone-pelting incident while travelling in a jeep along with party activists on December 1, 2014.
According to police, K K Rajan (52) of Cheekad near Manakadavu suffered head injuries in a stone pelting attack by alleged CPI(M) activists on December one night. Rajan was returning in a jeep along with other BJP workers after attending the Janasakthi Meet organized by BJP district committee at Payyanur as part of K T Jayakrishnan Master Balidan Day and first commemorative day of C N Vinod Kumar of Payyanur.
CPI(M) activists hurled stones at several vehicles including his jeep at Alakkode near Thaliparamba and near by areas around 2000 hrs. BJP activists rushed him to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital with serious head injuries and later became partially paralysed.
Then, he was shifted to KMC Hospital at Mangalore last month where he succumbed at around 0800 hrs. Police arrested few CPI(M) activists in this connection and registered cases under section 307 of IPC.
He is survived by wife Rajitha and two children Ramya and Manu. BJP sources said they called for a dawn-to dusk hartal today at Irikkur Mandalam and Chapparapadavu Panchayat following the death of Rajan and the cremation will be held this evening after the post-mortem at Mangalore Hospital.
