New Delhi | Often accused of minority appeasement, a host of top Congress leaders, including Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Sonia Gandhi, today went all out to greet people on the occasion of ‘Maha Shivratri’.
Several Congress General Secretaries including Digvijay Singh, C P Joshi, Ajay Maken as also former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot extended their greetings.
They took to Twitter in a big way to greet the people. Patel said: My best wishes on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. May Lord Mahadev answer your prayers and shower His blessings on all. Former Union Minister and party MP Shashi Tharoor, who is one of the most prolific leaders on Twitter, was prominent among them.
Tharoor said: Bholenath fulfil all your wishes. Om Namah Shivay. Happy Mahashivratri to all. Not exactly my birthday, but I was born 59 Shivaratris ago. The tweet was half in Hindi and half English.
The Twitter handles of the party ‘INC India’ as also that of the Youth Congress said Happy Maha Shivratri to all. May Lord Shiva answer all your prayers on Maha Shivratri and always.
Party MPs Jyotraditya Scindia, Sushmita Dev, Deependra Hooda also took to Twitter to greet people.
A month after the Congress debacle in the Lok Sabha elections, senior party leader A K Antony, while speaking in the Kerala context, had questioned the party’s minority appeasement stand.
Antony had said people’s faith in the party’s commitment to secularism appeared to have eroded slightly and it was vital to regain the confidence of the masses to move forward.
