Kannur | Sreekandapuram police has served summons to CPI(M)’s Thaliparamba MLA James Mathew asking him to appear before the police on February 24 in connection with an abetment to suicide case of School Headmaster in which he was cited as the second accused.
According to police, the MLA was not at home so they handed over the summons to MLAs wife N Sukanya, who was AIDWA state leader, at their house at Pallikunnu this morning. The notice demanded to appear before the Sreekandapuram police on December 24. Now, the MLA was in Thriuvananathapuram and would visit Alapuzha to attend the CPI(M) state conference which ends on February 23. The MLA is the second accused in the case and if he did not turn up within the stipulated time, he would be taken into custody,police sources said.
Police arrested the prime accused M V Shaji (38), a teacher and colleague of Tagore Vidhya Nikethan School, Thaliparamba on February 17 from his house at Chuzhali and remanded at sub jail under judicial custody in connection with the suicide of School Headmaster E P Sasidharan (52) on December 15 . Police registered the case against the prime accused Shaji and MLA under section 306 of IPC, in this case.
Earlier, the anticipatory bail plea of Shaji and was rejected by Thalassery Sessions Court and later by High Court of Kerala last week. Sasidharan was found hanging in a lodge at Kasargod on December 15. Police also recovered two suicide notes purportedly written by Sasidharan mentioning the names of Shaji and James Mathew.
