Kozhikode | Municipal workers in Kerala today reiterated their demand for absorbing them in state government service with immediate effect. The Kerala Municipal and Corporation Staff Association in a memorandum to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said pay, allowance and pension should be disbursed out of the general purpose grant, KMCSA President B Sasi Kumar told reporters here.
He said many municipalities were not disbursing salary regularly and retired persons were not getting pension even after several years prompting them to approch court. Stating employees of panchayats were absorbed as government servants since 1995 and engineering staff of municipalities since 2007, he said rest of the staff should also be considered as government servants and pension payment to retired staff by the state administration in a phased manner.
These demands could be met utilizing the huge general purpose grant, which was Rs 235 crore in the current year, he said. These and other burning issues of municipal workers would be deliberated in details the 38th state conference of the association here from February 21, he said. More than 1000 delegates from all parts of the state are expected to participate in the two day meet, he added.
