New Delhi | Launching a massive dharna at Jantar Mantar here today, social activist Anna Hazare questioned the BJP-led NDA government on the need to promulgate an Ordinance on Land Acquisition when Parliament had cleared the Bill in 2013.
I ask the Government what is the need to bring an Ordinance, when the Bill was already passed in 2013, Mr Hazare said. Terming the Ordinance ‘anti-farmer’, he said, The original Bill restricted the Government from acquiring land if 70 per cent of the land owners were not willing. But this Ordinance has diluted that clause.
He said the Government has also made amendments which prohibits a farmer from approaching the court to seek justice pertaining to his land. He can only do so if the Government allows it.
The social activist also accused the Modi Government of being pro-corporate and anti-farmer and said the amendments were made only to please the corporate class.
He said the party which came to power on promises of acche din has changed track after winning. Where are the acche din that the Modi Government has promised the people and came to power. Who is savoring acche din, Mr Hazare asked. The social activist said more than 5,000 farmers from Palwal will be joining him at the Jantar Mantar.
He said he had always fought for the right of the people and the country and will keep on doing so till his death. The social activist, along with his supporters and farmers, is on a two-day dharna at the Jantar Mantar against the NDA Government’s Land Acquisition Ordinance.
