Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala Forest Department today installed several wooden nests at Nedumangad International Market, set up by the Department of Agriculture with the assistance of the European Union, as part of the International House Sparrow day, today.
The Forest Department the Writers and Nature Lovers’ Forum have jointly observed the House Sparrow Day. MLA Palod Ravi inaugurated the installation of wooden nests in the market this morning.
The project had received much support from the traders, who were enthusiastic in caring for the small birds. Forum president C Rahim joinly said ‘Sparrows are usually found in market places. But one factor that is driving them away is that grain and other food materials come packed. It’s becoming harder for the birds to find food,’ he added.
