New Delhi | Separatist leaders from Jammu and Kashmir were present in full attendance at the Pakistani High Commission this evening on the occasion of the Pakistan Day. New Delhi was represented by Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh, a former Army Chief.
The celebrations took place days after two terror attacks in J&K. Gen Singh was received by Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit and the two sat together briefly before the national anthems of the two countries were played.
The Indian minister left shortly thereafter. The separatists present at the function included hardliner Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Omar Farooq and leaders of their women wings.
On the occasion, the Pakistani envoy said India and Pakistan were neighbours and would remain so. We want to leave a legacy of peace and cooperation and not of hostility and conflict, he added.
