CPI (M) demands probe against Excise Mininster Babu

Kannur | The Communist Party of India (Marxist), heading the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala today demanded a probe against Kerala Excise Minister K Babu, accused of receiving Rs ten crore in bar bribery case.
Talking to reporters here, Party State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said a probe should be instituted against Minister K Babu for accepting Rs ten crore as alleged by Kerala Bar Owners Association Vice President Biju Ramesh.
He also demanded resignation of Mr Babu and Finance Minister K M Mani against whom the Vigilance had already launched a probe into the case.
He urged Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to remove both the ministers from the cabinet if they failed to tender their resignation. In a secret statement to Vigilance Magistrate on March 30, Mr Ramesh had stated that Babu received Rs ten crore for not hiking license fee of liquor bars in the state.
He had also revealed that Mani had sought Rs five crore and he was offered Rs 50 lakh at his Pala residence.
