Thiruvananthapuram | BJP’s all India general secretary Muralidhar Rao today asserted that the party-led NDA government had nothing to do with Ghar Wapsi programmes being organised by sangh parivar outfits and it was a natural retaliation for organised conversions in the country.
Ghar Wapsi was not a new thing that happened after BJP came to power, Rao said during an interaction with a group of persons from different walks of life here. It (reconversion) is there for many years. When organised conversions takes place, in a society that is alive, there will be retaliation of reconversion, Rao said.
On the controversy connected with it, he said, Many vested interests in the country and outside are trying to make an issue out of a non-issue. Ghar Wapsi is a law and order issue and it is for state governments to take steps in this regard, he said. Rao made it clear that the BJP government had a clear mandate and action programme, and its focus was to strengthen nation’s economy and speed up development process.
Government’s efforts are on this line. There was an attempt to create an impression that BJP was against Muslims and minorities. However, things are changing and they have realised that BJP is a party that they could depend on, he said. Congress party’s era in the country is over and BJP has charted out a ‘South Agenda’ to extend its support base particularly in Kerala, he said.
To a question, he said the situation in Kerala was conducive for BJP to secure electoral victory. We will overcome the hurdles and win in Kerala, where the party has failed to make an electoral breakthrough in Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
