Kozhikode | In a major haul, Air Customs Intelligence seized 11.300 kg gold worth about Rs 30 million from four passengers arrived from Dubai and Sharjah at Calicut International Airport near here today.
Sources said sleuths seized two packets containing 26 gold biscuits each and another another with 30 gold biscuits totaling 9.600 kg from three passengers — Mohammed Subhair, Naushad and Hashish, hailing from Kuthuparamba in Kannur district — this morning.
The remaining 1.700 kg was recovered from Shihabuddin of Malappuram, they added.
Huge quantities of gold smuggled into the country were seized from Calicut, Thiruvanthapuram and Nedubassery airports in the state since the Centre tightened norms for yellow metal import.
