Jack fruit processing factory to be opened

Kannur | The first Jack fruit processing factory– Artocarpus Foods Private Limited  –in the country will be launched on May 16 at Kinfra Industrial Centre at Nadukani, near Koothuparamba in the district.
Talking to newsmen here today, Company Managing Director Subhash Koroth said Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan will inaugurate the factory  and MLA James Mathew will preside over the function.
The company will market ten products from the Jack fruit like Jack fruit juice, dehydrated products and cakes made from chakka kuru (seeds), multi purpose powder for bakery, Chakka Halwa, Chakka Varaty, Chakka Kuru Protein Mix, chakkakuru chicken masala and fish masala under the brand name of Hebon.
Mr Subhash Koroth claimed this company is the first producing jack fruits by-products under commercial sector. The objective of the company is to produce foods without gluten, which is harmful to the human body and also aim to export to these products.
He said the company would function on all days and collect the jack fruit at the rate of Rs five per kg from North Malabar.
He also said the cake and biscuits will be produced in the bakeries using chakkakuru powder as an alternative to Maida, but it cannot be used for making bread or bun because it will not work out with yeast.
