New Delhi | The Supreme Court today stayed till further orders the Aam Aadmi Party Government’s circular which had put a ban on the reporting anything in the media that could affect its reputation or that of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
A division bench comprising justice Dipak Misra and Prafulla C Pant has stayed the circular issued by state information and publicity department on May 6.
The circular had directed officials to file a complaint with Principal Secretary (Home) if they felt any published or broadcast new item has caused damage to his or the government’s reputation.
After getting a go-ahead from Director (prosecution), the matter should be referred to the law department and case should be filed after getting approval from the government.
The court issued notice to Mr Kejriwal and other concerned authorities and and asked them to file a written reply within six weeks as to why such a circular was issued.
