Kannur | Pariyaram Sub Inspector K M Rajan suffered serious head injuries in an alleged attack by sand mafia at Pacheni near Pariyaram, when he blocked a mini lorry loaded with sand in the early hours of today.
He was to a private hospital for advanced treatment. According to police, Sub inspector Rajan and Civil Police officer Ranjith, who were patrolling on motorbike, blocked the mini lorry loaded with sand at Parolikadavu near Pacheni under Pariyaram Police Limits at around 0530 hrs.
The SI Rajan tried to enter the cabin of the lorry where people sitting inside resisted and forcibly pushed him down to the road which resulted in head injuries to the police official.
The lorry sped away from the scene. The SI was found lying unconscious following the attack and later police reinforcements reached the spot following the information of Co-police officer Ranjith , and rushed him to Pariyaram Medical College Hosptial around 0600 hrs, police said.
Police registered a case against a ten member sand mafia gang led by Latheef of Koranpeedika and investigation and raid was going on to nab them at Pariyaram, Koranpeedika,Pazhayangadi and Mattol areas in the district.
Latheef was involved in many cases including an attack case against Thaliparamba ASP Sivavikraman led police team at Parolikadavu, when they blocked his lorry by carrying illegal sand on February 24,2014 at 0100 hrs when they conduct raid on patrolling duty.
District Police Chief P N Unnirajan, Thaliparamba DySP A Surendran led team also visited grade SI Rajan at PMC at today morning.
