Kozhikode | The Indian Union Muslim League, the second largest constituent in the Congress-led ruling United Democratic Front in Kerala, today demanded a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the Malabar Cement graft case.
Talking to reporters here, IUML General Secretary K P A Majeed, heading the 2-day regional jatha of the front, urged the government to consider the demand of Opposition leader and veteran Communist
V S Achuthanadan’s demand in this connection.Mr Achuthanandan had yesterday sought a high level probe
into the issue following reports by news channels quoting former Managing Director of the Malabar Cements’ Satya Moorthy statement of bribe to CPI (M) Central Commitee member and former Kerala Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem, a charge denied by him.
He said the CPI (M) leaders were a disappointed lot as the IUML had not attempted to sabotage the government as has been evident from the statemenet of CPI (M) Central Committee member E P Jayarajan, who reportedly said that his party will cooperate with the IUML if it pulled down it.He said the CPI (M) was chasing the IUML after it failed to woo Janata Dal (United) and the Revolutionary Socialist Party.
The jatha, inaugurated by JDU state President and former Union Minister M P Veerendra Kumar last evening, will culminate in Vatakara after traversing through different places in the region.
