Thiruvananthapuram | A day after Finance Minister K M Mani, facing bribery charges in the bar licence scam, expressed displeasure over the alleged leak of a vigilance probe report, the Kerala government today ordered a crime branch probe into it.
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala’s office said government has ordered a crime branch probe into the leak. Chennithala said at Kozhikode that the leak would affect the credence of the Vigilance department and that is why the probe was ordered. KPCC President V M Sudheeran also expressed anguish over the leak of the report.
However, he said he did not know if the media reports on it were correct or not. No Front partner has made a complaint to KPCC on the matter, he said. The probe was progressing in the right direction and KPCC would not try to protect anyone in the case, he said.
Mani, a veteran politician and supremo of Kerala Congress (M), the third largest partner in the Congress-led ruling UDF, had openly expressed displeasure over media reports on the polygraph test conducted on Kerala Bar Hotel Owners Working President Biju Ramesh’s car driver, who deposed before the Vigilance against Mani.
The alleged scam surfaced in November last after Ramesh alleged that the association had paid Rs one crore to the FM. Later he also alleged a bribe of Rs 10 crore was paid to Excise Minister K Babu.
