Kasargod | Burglars decamped with an antique panchaloha and metal idols of Kammadam Bhagwathi Temple in Kasargod District of Kerala, police today said.
Police said, quoting preliminary investigation, the theft came to notice this morning. The burglars entered the temple by removing tiles and walked away with the idols.
The panchaloha idol, which was stolen earlier too, was found abandoned near Thirumeni Temple in the district, they said adding a case had been registered and investigation was on.
In another incident three persons, hailing from Kerala, have been arrested on charges of trying to smuggle and sell a ‘panchaloha’ idol of Lord Ganesh, near Kanyakumari.
Following a tip-off, police had stopped a car at Nagercoil last night and on checking it, found the idol. The three occupants told police they had smuggled the idol from Thiruvanandapuram to Nagercoil and were planning to sell it, police said.
Police said the value of the 5.5 kg idol was estimated to be Rs 50 lakh.
