Kannur | CPI(M) District Secretary P Jayarajan today said he would meet the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers at Thiruvananathapuram office on June two in the wake of a notice served to him.
A CBI team probing the murder of Kathiroor Manoj, RSS district functionary, had issued a notice demanding him to be present before them on June two as part of the second phase of the probe into the conspiracy angle in the case.
The CBI team, led by DySP Hari Om Prakash, had been probing the case since November four last and they had arrested 19 suspected CPI(M) activists and filed a partial charge sheet containing 123 pages on March seven before the Thalassery District Sessions Court.
The charge sheet also pointed out the murder took place with the knowledge of the District Leadership of the CPI(M). The conspiracy behind the murder and harbouring the accused will be probed in the second phase .
Manoj was the fifth accused in the case of attempt to murder P Jayarajan on August 25, 1999. The charge sheet had made it clear that Manoj was killed for his involvement in attempt to murder Jayarajan .
CBI took up the case on November 5, last year and arrested 12 accused besides recovering the weapons used by the gang following BJP raising concerns that political pressure could affect the Kerala Police investigation.
Earlier, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Kerala police probed the case and arrested seven accused, including prime accused Vikraman. SIT and CBI slapped UAPA on all the arrested 19 who were remanded in judicial custody.
RSS District Functionary Manoj (42), who lost control of his van after assailants threw a bomb, was hacked to death at Ukkasmotta near Kathirur in the politically-sensitive Kannur District on September one,2014. His companion Pramod was severely injured in the attack.
