Thiruvananthapuram | The CPI (M) state secretariat today gave its approval to the candidature of M Vijayakumar for the Aruvikkara Assembly bypoll. Former CPI (M) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan would be the election incharge of the party in Aruvikkara.
Congress is likely to field Dr MT Sulekha, wife of former speaker G Karthikeyan, in Aruvikkara seat. Earlier, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and KPCC President V M Sudheeran jointly met her to ensure her candidature.
BJP will announce its candidate on May 31. Party sources said the party would field a senior leader to give a tight fight to both the Congress-led UDF and the CPI (M)-led LDF in the constituency. The election to the seat, fell vacant due to the demise of former Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan, will be held on July 27.
