Kochi | Kerala Forest Department Ernakulam region would distribute over three lakh saplings to various organisations as part of world environmental day celerations.
Informing this at a news conference here today, Chief Conservator of forests L Chandrasekhar, IFS, said that the Ernakulam region would organise various programmes evolving ideas from the world environmental message of susthira jeevithasaili (sustainable life style).
As part of the celebration, the forest department would provide around 10000 saplings to the IOC and BPCL outlets at a cost of Rs two each to distribute saplings to each vehicle owners at a free of cost encouraging them to plant one sapling by two wheelers and two saplings by four wheelers, he said.
Besides this, the forest department would take initiative to plant 70 starforests, planting saplings in the name of birth stars, 100 child forests, planting 10 saplings of various variety in one place and medicinal plant and various other schemes, he added.
