Bomb blast kills two CPI(M) workers in Kannur

Kannur | Two CPI(M) workers were killed ,while two others were seriously injured when a country bomb exploded while bombs were being manufactured  in an unused plot at East Chettakandy near Kolavallur today.
Following the explosion, police conduct raid and seized one steel bomb and bomb making materials, including a steel container from the plot of one injured victim Nitheesh.. Police also found that bushfires were set off in some areas  of the plot, allegedly to destroy evidence.
A bomb squad and forensic experts conducted a thorough search in the  nearby areas  ADGP Shankar Reddy also visited the place. Police have been deployed in large numbers  under District police chief P N Unnirajan at the scene of the mishap.
The area is said to be a stronghold  of CPI(M) and there were many instances of BJP and CPI(M) clashes had reported so far. The explosion occurred at about 1315 hrs, when the victims were engaged in making bombs. The deceased were identified as Shaiju (34) and Subheesh (29), They succumbed to injuries on the way to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, the injured Ratheesh and Nitheesh were admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode after being given first aid at Thalassery coo-operative hospital.

BJP, Congress demand probe
Kannur | BJP Kannur District President K Ranjitha and District Congress Committee (DCC) President K Surendran today demanded that police should conduct a comprehensive enquiry to  Kolavvalur bomb explosion, in which two CPI(M) activists died  and two others were seriously injured, while making bombs.
BJP leader Ranjith said police should register case under UAPA against the CPI(M) district level leaders and the activists who were engaged to bomb making. He also said the CPI(M) has violated the condition taken in the all party peace meeting, which was convened by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.
He alleged that CPI(M) was trying to create a violence situation in Kannur district by making bombs in Kolavallur as the last example in this regard.
DCC President Surendran siad the police should register murder case against CP(M) leaders and the acitivsts who engaged in bomb making.The bombs were made by CPI(M) strong hold areas only with the knowledge of CPI(M) leadership.
