Kannur | District Sessions Court today sent Maoist leader Roopesh into police custody till June 15 following the plea of Iritty police to question him in the attack at a quarry office at Nedumpoyil near Peravoor in the district on January two.
Additional District Judge V Jayaram today ordered to handover Roopesh to police custody to question him in this case. Police produced him today afternoon from Kannur Central Jail, where he was remanded in judicial custody last week.
He has been booked under Unlawful Activities prevention Act (UAPA) in this case. On January two, the five members, including a woman, dressed in military uniforms, reached the New Bharat Stone Crush at 24th Mile in Chekkazhi near Peravoor around 0230 hrs and demanded the keys to the office from the quarry workers, residing nearby.
When they refused to give the keys, they stormed into the office of the crusher unit by breaking open the doors, shouting Maoist slogans. The gang damaged the computers, fax machines, CCTV cameras, television, office files and windows and set ablaze the office files.
They also took the CCTV cameras and pasted posters of ‘Western ghats Samrakshana Samithi’ and Maoists supported pamphlets after spending around 15 minutes at the office.
