Kannur | The kingpin of sand mafia gang, who attacked Pariyaram Sub-inspector (SI) on May 16 who tried to seize the mafia’s lorry in the wee hours of May 16, was in police custody in a hospital at Mangalore.
According to police here today, Abdul Latheef (35) of Koranpeedika, who was absconding after the crime, was found admitted in a private hospital at Mangaloru in Karnataka.
Police said , following a tip-off they reached the hospital and found Abdul Latheef undergoing for treatment of pneumonia at Highland Hospital in Kankanady near Mangaluru. His wife and children are also staying in the same hospital.
Police said he would be arrested after discharge from the hospital in connection with this case. Thaliparamba Circle inspector (CI) Vinod kumar led special squad team are providing security at hospital.
Police so far arrested six persons, including Abdul Latheef’s son, in this case and all of them are in judicial custody. One of them is under observation under Juvenile Jusitice Act. SI Rajan KM (52) has been undergoing treatment in a private hospital at Kozhikode and his health condition had improved,hospital sources said.
Rajan suffered serious head injuries in an alleged attack with weapons by sand mafia at Pacheni near Pariyaram when the police blocked a mini lorry loaded with sand.
