Kannur | Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretary Kanam Rajendran today said the CPI MLA E S Bijimol’s assault of the Idukki Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Moncy P Alexander at Peruvanthanam yesterday was part of an agitation resorted to by the party to protect the people.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Rajendran said the CPI would check whether the roughing-up had taken place before discussing the issue with the MLA concerned. However, he justified the MLA’s action against the ADM.
The issue will be tackled legally following a case being registered by police in this regard, he added.
Mr Rajendran claimed the scope of human rights, including for holding a protest against a social issue, has been reduced after the independence following the black laws implemented by the government so far.
Mr Rajendran opined the government was suppressing the people by misusing ‘black laws like UAPA, TADA, POTA.’
However, he said, the CPI will not justify the policy of Maoist organizations by carrying weapons and opined only social issues would be addressed through political and in democratic level.
