Sulthan Bathery | A tiger devoured a man at Kurichiad tribal settlment in the woods of hilly Wayanad district of Kerala.
Police said Babu Raj (24) of Kattunayika tribal colony, who had gone for collecting fire food, was killed and eaten by the feline. Body parts of Babu, who left for the forest Thursday, was handed over to his relatives after post-mortem, they said.
As per the pug marks seen in the locality, the animal that killed him was a tiger, forest department sources said.
The department will recommend a Rs 10 lakh compensation to the next of kin and a temporary job to his wife. This was the second incident of a tiger killing a man in the state. Farmer Bhaskaran (52) of Noolpuzha in the district was killed by a tiger on February 9 last.
A week later, Mahalashmi, a resident of Pattavayal in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu was killed by a tiger, which was later shot by authorities.
