Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala Labour Minister Baby John today told the State Assembly that the Government will take over the Bonacaud Estate.
Replying to a submission moved by newly elected UDF MLA KS Sabarinathan, the Minister said the Government has given in principle approval for taking over the estate.
The State Labour Commissioner, who would visit the Estate tomorrow, will see the various issues including legal aspects of the takeover. The Government has also decided to supply free rations to families which are in the grip of acute starvation in the estate.
Stating that the Government had already spent Rs 33 lakh to various welfare programmes, he said more schemes, ensuring better health, education and supply of drinking water, would be chalked out in the coming days.
The Bonacaud Estate, coming in the Aruvikkara Assembly Constituency, became a talking point in the political circle during the bypoll due to its backwardness. Congress MLA Sabarinathan, son of late Speaker G Karthikeyan, won the seat in June 27 by election.
