Thiruvananthapuram | About 75,000 people were bitten by stray dogs in the last six months in Kerala. In 2014, the stray dog bite cases in the state were about 90,000, and if the figure shoots up like that, it could touch 1.5 lakh this year. The state is facing a serious stray dog menace, according to official sources here today.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the state Assembly yesterday that an all party meeting will be held on July 9 to discuss the menace.
The Chief Minister was replying to a submission moved by Unniyadan MLA, who is also the Chairman of Assembly Petitions Committee.The MLA said the claim of animal lovers who say that there are laws against the killing of stray dogs, is not true.
