| Thalassery Principal Sessions judge R Narayana Pisharaody today rejected the anticipatory bail application of CPI(M) District unit Secretary P Jayarajan in the RSS district functionary K Manoj murder case.
The court rejected the plea citing that anticipatory bail cannot be granted in an Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
While, the CBI prosecutor S Krishna Kumar and Jayarajan counsel K Viswan could not appear before the court today, only their junior advocates appeared. The final arguments in the case concluded on July 22 and the verdict was reserved for today.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) sources said they would challenge this order in a higher court soon. The CBI had filed a plea before the Supreme Court last week praying to shift the Manoj Murder Case to Ernakulam CBI Court rom the Thalassery Sessions Court.
Mr Jayarajan had undergone angioplasty in the second week of July at Pariyaram Medical College hospital. He was later shifted to AKG hospital, a CPI(M) controlled co-operative hospital in Kannur town on July 22 for physiotherapy. The plea was submitted after he was admitted in the hospital following the arrest of four party functionaries in this case on July 9, in connection with the conspiracy.
