Thiruvananthapuram | The proposed Kerala Technical University (KTU) will be named after Former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the State Assembly today.
Announcing the Government decision, Mr Chandy said Dr Kalam had close connections with the State Capital where he stayed for over two decades in connection with the country’s space programme.
Considering the contributions of Dr Kalam to the field of science and technology, the Government decided to rename the KTU as A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University, he added.
The renaming is on the day when the Kerala Technical University Bill-2015 is being moved in the Assembly for discussion today, he added.
The Bill, seeking the improvement of technical education through effective application of Information Technology and advanced information systems in education and research and by affiliating all engineering colleges in the State, was moved for discussion today.
