Kannur | Director General of Police (DGP) T P Senkumar today said the police did not make any mistake during vehicle-checking at Mannuthy in Thrissur district, where one woman and her two-year-old daughter were killed when they were crushed under a moving bus yesterday.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Senkumar said the bike-rider did not have a licence or helmet and he must have got panicked after seeing the patrolling that virtually led to the mishap. The people, who do not posses the licence have the tendency to skip the post whenever the inspection was on progress.
The DGP said cops are only human beings and the people need not be scared of them. The accident cases have been reduced to 17 in July from 57 in the previous month owing to to prompt checking of vehicles, he pointed out.
He said people should cooperate with the police to maintain peace and law and order. Steps were also taken to sensitise people against violence. Mr Senkumar said a control room was opened at Panoor, keeping the exigency of the political situation in mind. The arrest of the accused would be made transparent, he added.
