Kannur | Member of Parliament (MP) P K Sreemathi today inaugurated the Janakeeyam Janasamksham programme of Kannur All India Radio (AIR) FM at District Conference Hall here.
The 25-minute recorded programme will be broadcast through Kannur FM of AIR with the cooperation of Information and Publicity Department. The aim of this programme is to connect MPs of Kannur and Kasargod with the public and hear the views and feedback from them. MPs may use the new platform to present developmental issues and talk about their positions on such issues. Ms P K Sreemathy said this programme is similar to Maan ki Baat of  Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The people can get a chance to speak to concerned MPs about the issues of development, government schemes, welfare measures and health in the district. This is the first-of-its kind broadcast through FM channel in the country, she claimed.
Ms Sreemathy said the MPs were responsible to address the people issues in a time-bound manner and fruitfully. These types of radio programmes would address the poor people issues when they contact their MPs through a letter or phone.
AIR Kannur Unit Programme Head K Balachandran said more than 100 letters had been received so far for this programme. Some people had sought the help of MPs like a study centre of Central University at Kannur,  Anganwadi, cultural centre and playground at Kuttikol Panchayat.
The MP assured she would submit a memorandum to Union Minister Smrithi Irani through the recommendations of  State Education Minister. District Collector P Balakiran presided over the function and District Panchayat President K A Sarla also attended the function.
