Kannur | The Western Naval Command (WNC) emerged champions in the Indian Navy Cross-Country championship for 2015-16, which was conducted by INS Zamorin at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) ,here today.
All the three top positions were also secured by WNC team with Praveen Kumar at the first position, clocking 42.09 minutes, followed by Anannda Ramand and Ranjan Kumar with a timing of 42.12 and 42.20 second respectively.
This is the first time INS Zamorin is conducting the prestigious event, team from three commands of the Navy— Eastern Naval Command (Vizhakapatnam), Western Naval Command (Mumbai) and Southern Naval Command (Kochi) participated the cross country championship which was flagged off by Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar P, Commandant at 0630 hrs.
The Championship tests the limits of physical endurance, determination and will power in participants. The event saw each team fielding nine runners, in which they ran a course of 12 KM across the varied terrain of Ezhimala. 8 cadets of the INA represented the SNC team.
Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar P presented the trophies and individual medal to the winners. The event was also utilized to identify the best runners who would represent the Navy team in the forth coming Services Cross-Country Championship.
In his address to the gathering, the Admiral congratulated the winning Team and also lauded the effort put in by all the participating teams. He emphasised on the importance of cross-country running in the military regimen, bringing out the fact that this tested the mettle, perseverance, and, will-power of each participant. The runners were cheered by officers, families, sailors, civilians and cadets of Ezhimala Station.
