CPM-BJP clashes in Mattannur; Bombs hurled at house

Kannur | Two women were injured when a bomb was hurled at the house of a RSS leader allegedly by CPI(M) activists at Naduvanad near Mattanur late last night.
Two CPI(M) activists including CPI(M) Naduvanad Branch Secretary Vipin Raj suffered injuries on legs in an alleged attack by BJP/RSS activist at Kotturinghal near Naduvanad.
According to Mattanur Police, an eight-member BJP/RSS activists attacked Vipin Raj(28) and DYFI worker Sajeesh (27) at Kotturinghal  with iron rods at around 2130 hrs last night when they were returning home . Both of them were admitted in a private hospital at Kannur town with leg injuries.
In retaliation, a group of 15 CPI(M) activists hurled steel bombs at the house of Jithesh,  RSS Mattanur Taluk Pracharak Pramukh at around 2330 hrs.
The front door and the window panes of the house were damaged in this attack and Jithesh’s mother  N K Janaky (61) and her daughter in law Asha Rajan (23) suffered minor injuries on hands and legs after being hit by shards and were admitted to  Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital at Thalassery.
Following this attack, BJP/RSS called a dawn-to dusk hartal at Naduvanad and Chavassery Town and it was total. Large number of policemen under Iritty DySP P Sukumaran are camping at  the spot and the situation was under control , police said.
Police registered cases against 15 CPI(M) and 8 BJP activists in this connection.
