Thiruvananthapuram | Techie-turned hero Nivin Pauly, young talent Sudev Nair and young Nazriya Nazim have been chosen as the best actors while national award winning director Jayaraj’s ‘Ottal’ got the best film award for 2014.
Announcing the Kerala Film Awards here today, Cinema Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said the winners were selected from 70 Malayalam films by a jury headed by veteran script writer and cinema critic John Paul.
Nivin Pauly bagged the award for his performances in ‘Bangalore Days’ and ’1983′ and Sudev Nair for his role in ‘My Life Partner’. Nazriya won the award for her role in ‘Bangalore Days’ and ‘Om Shanthi Oshana’.
‘Ottal,’ based on Russian writer Anton Chekhov’s short story ‘Vanka’, got the best film award.
Actor-turned-Director M B Padmakumar’s maiden venture, ‘My Life Partner,’ a film based on homosexuality, got the second best film award. Anoop Menon and Sethulekshmi got the best supporting actor and actress awards respectively. Jayaraj is the best director.
The award for best playback singer has been bagged by Yesudas and Shreya Ghoshal, the best female playback singer. The award for best choreographer has been bagged by Sajna Najam for Vikramadityan.

Expressing his happiness over winning the prestigious state award, he told the media the award was unexpected. However, the award would inspire him to work in more artistic films.
The upcoming actor won the state award for his roles in ’1983′ and ‘Bangalore Days.’
