San Francisco/ New Delhi | In a reboot , Google Inc today announced creation of a holding company Alphabet, while  naming Chennai -born Sundar Pichai as CEO of the search engine power house for which IIT Kharagpur alumnus created  the most successful browser Chrome and Android operating system.
In a surprise move, Google unveiled a new structure encompassing a holding company but it will retain the flagship businesses such as search  apps, YouTube and Android.
The announcement was done by Google co- founder Larry Page ,who will be the Chief Executive Officer of the holding firm. All praise for  Pichai who has risen from humble roots at Chennai where  he use to live in a two bedroom apartment,Page wrote in his blog post.
Sundar has been saying the things I would have said (and sometimes better!) for quite some time now, and I’ve been tremendously enjoying our work together.
As 43 year old Pichai joins the ranks of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella , another Indian, his appointment as the Google top brass brought cheers to Indians including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Congratulations Sundar Pichai. My best wishes for the new role
at Google” said the Prime Minister in his tweet.
Pichai generated not only millions of fans on the social media, but also won a huge support from the Wall Street where the Google share notched up smart gains after the restructuring announcement.
According to analysts, the Wall Street wanted Google not to experiment on new ideas at the cost of the core business which will be overseen by Pichai.
BBC  saw in him  ‘ a glowing endorsement of India’s standing in the global technology industry, and equally, a reassuring reminder of the so-called American Dream.
It said low profile Pichai ,however faces challenges on the popularity of video sharing on the rival Facebook, though Google retains the leadership role for its You tube.
