Kozhikode | The Karshaka Congress in Kerala today urged the Centre to halt coconut oil import which will harm about three million farmers in the state.
Talking to reporters here, its State General Secretary B P Rasheed said the outfit, backed by other like-minded organizations will launch agitation before the Central offices if the government failed to meet the demand.
He said this and other burning issues of coconut farmers will be deliberated in detail at a meet here on August 13.
The other demands included, steps to procure coconut through government agencies, fix Rs 40 per kg for Raw Coconut, release fertilizers free of cost, insurance scheme for coconut trees and hike farmers pension.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President V M Sudheeran would inaugurate the meet at Rajiv Gandhi auditorium, he added.
