Kochi | Accusing Congress and Left parties of playing a cynical ploy to sabotage India’s economic growth, BJP today said a team of five NDA MPs, led by a minister, would campaign in the 53 Lok Sabha constituencies represented by the parties who blocked Monsoon session of Parliament.
BJP spokesman Kirit Somaiya alleged that most Kerala MPs were involved in the disruption and so the 20 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state represented by Left and Congress would see maximum team members campaigning from September 25 to October 2.
First of all, we are really feeling sorry…the whole monsoon session was washed out. …the disruption by opposition Congress and Left parties resulted in a washout of the Monsoon session. And that’s why we really feel sorry…we apologise to the people of the country. We have decided to observe a week starting from September 25, 99th birth anniversary of Deendayal Upadhyay, to Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on October 2, a team of Members of Parliament, led by a minister, will camp for the whole week in the constituency of the MP who blocked the session, he told reporters here. Somaiyya said there are 44 Congress MPs of Lok Sabha and nine MPs of the Left Front.
These 53 members did not allow Parliament to function. From September 25 to October 2, a team will tour each constituency, he said. He said, The deliberate and forcible disruption of the monsoon session was a cynical ploy to sabotage India’s economic growth at a moment of historical renewal and, given the international economic climate, rare opportunity and optimism towards India.
Somaiya, who represents Mumbai North-East constituency in the Lok Sabha, said the disruption tactics were an assault on the aspirations of the people of India, and in particular on the dreams of our youth, who are thirsting for jobs, through sabotage of the GST Constitutional Amendment Bill, crafted across party lines over years of effort.
He alleged that Congress leaders made their intentions plain before the Monsoon session began when they announced that they would not allow Parliament to function. They have succeeded but at a severe cost…India, and its economic revival, are being held hostage by Congress… People of India are paying a heavy price for the delinquent behaviour of the party, Somaiya said.
Reading out a resolution adopted by the NDA parliamentary party, the BJP MP said, This legislation estimated to add between 1.5-2 per cent to our GDP: in other words, India’s GDP stands to lose around Rs 2,00,000 crore per year because of the irrational and unprincipled obstinacy of a Congress leadership determined to promote the interests of a fading dynasty above the needs of our nation.
He alleged that the petulant politics of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi is stealing jobs from the poor, who benefit most from a rising economy, for reasons that trite, tired, prurient and manifestly fallacious. Somaiya said the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi stands fully committed to make a truly resurgent India.
