Govt. must intervene to slash air fare rise: CPI(M)

Kozhikode | The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today demanded immediate intervention of the Centre and Kerala Government to check drastic fare hike imposed by certain airline companies in Kerala-Gulf sector.
Accusing the firms for ‘looting’ the passengers by slapping a 10-fold fare hike, CPI (M) district committee secretary P Mohanan in a release here said by this step they are cashing in on the occasion of school reopening in that region.
Citing the proposal of Air India Express and Air Arabia to charge Rs 35,000 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi sector for a ticket in September 2015,  airliners like Ethihad slapped an exorbitant Rs 67,758 for a single travel in Kozhikode-Abu Dhabi sector, he said.
Despite all this, the Centre and the State government kept mum to enable the airliners to continue with the loot, he said.
The party will launch stringent agitation if the governments failed to take remedial measures to contain the exorbitant air fare hike in the state, he added.
