Idol thieves nabbed in Kannur

Kannur | Police have arrested a three- member gang involved in temple and house robberies in Kerala and bordering Karnataka. The police team also recovered a panchaloha idol valued about Rs ten lakh, gold ornaments and cash, all valued at about Rs 50 lakh, from them.
Police said they arrested the kingpin of the gang  A N Biju (32), T P Johnson (37) duo hails from Pariyaram and P Prasanth (29) of Ulikkal. They also arrested Joby George of Karikkottakari in Kannur, who was conducting business at Bangalore. This gang had robbed  aabout 80 temples, churches and houses in Kannur, Kollam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Karnataka for the last one year.
They were arrested from Iritty town last evening. Police recovered the panchaloha idol, weighing about five Kg and about 400 year- old stolen from Mukkunnu Anakeel Bhagavathi temple at Kuppam. The temple was burgled  on May 5, this year. All the three members were earlier held in burglary cases.
