Kannur | Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said that the State has decided to focus on giving importance and encourage people to organic farming practices as a movement, while inaugurating a seminar Oranic farming:Kerala at the venue of South Indian Agri fest at Police ground here.
He said there is all possibilities of becoming self reliant in vegetable production with the support and cooperation of the people. The agriculture which has showing negative results in the past years have due to the intervention both technological and organic ways have resulted now to a positive outcome .
More over youths and students are more keen in this sector and the government has given direction to encourage them when they approach with new models and projects. He also said the State had only set aside one percent of total budjet to encorage the Agriculture sector and became a role model to the country.
Mr Oommen Chandy said that this mission should become a a movement of people to achieve this target . Gram sabhas can play an important role in this regard by bringing people together to cultivate organic vegetables across the State.
He said the role of youth especially students is immense who are now showing interest in to agricultural sector with increasing awareness.
Agriculture minister K P Mohanan said, in his presidential address, the state would turn into a totally organic state and for this All grama sabhas would sit from September first week to plan and discuss on the ways to develop it. MLAs A P Abdullakutty, Sunny Joseph, District collector P Balakiran, District Panchayat President K A Sarala and Agricultural department officials and experts also attended the seminar.
