2 killed, 7 injured in CPI(M)-BJP clashes in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram | Two people were killed and seven injured in alleged clashes between the CPI(M) and BJP activists in different parts of Kerala since yesterday, police said today.
While CPI(M) activists C Narayanan of Kodombeloor was hacked to death in Kasaragod, BJP worker Abhilash of Vellikkulangara sustained stab injuries at Thrissur yesterday. In another incident, one Shiju succumbed to head injuries and two others were injured in clashes between two section of people during an Onam celebrations last night at Chengannur in Kottayam district.
Tension prevailed in Kasaragod and Thrissur after CPI(M) and the BJP called for hartal to protest against the killings.
A report from Kasaragod said Narayanan’s brother Aravindan, who also sustained hack injuries in the attack, was admitted to a hospital in Mangalore in a serious condition. He suffered injuries when he tried to save his brother from the gang who came in bikes. Narayanan died on the spot. CPI(M) leaders alleged that BJP was behind yesterday’s attack.
A Thirussur report said  Abhilash  was travelling on a bike along with his friend when assailants attacked him at Vellikulangara  last evening. His friend Sathish also suffered serious injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital. The BJP alleged that the CPI(M) workers were behind the brutal killing.
In Thodupuzha, two Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sagh activists were stabbed allegedly by pro-Marxist DYFI activists. RSS workers took out a march following the attack. The protesters pelted stones at CPM area committee office at Thodupuzha.
A Kannur report said three people suffered hack injuries, several houses and party offices damaged in clashes between CPI(M) and BJP activists in Azhikode last night.
The  CPI(M) has called for a dawn-to dusk- hartal as a protest against the attacks in Azhikode panchayat.
Kannur DySP K K Moidheen Kutty said that about ten houses of both party workers were damaged in the clash. Meanwhile, two BJP workers’ houses were set on fire in a retaliatory attack by CPI(M) activists at Neerkadavu near Meenkunnu at 0200 hrs today.
Two CPI(M) activists and one BJP worker suffered injuries in the clashes at Kappile Peedika and Palliyanmoola in the wee hours today.
CPI(M) activist Shaiju (35) suffered head injuries while Shaheel suffered injuries on his legs in an alleged attack on him with iron rods and sticks. Shaiju was admitted to a private hospital at Kozhikode. BJP worker Baiju also suffered injuries and was rushed to a private hospital.
A large number of police personnel led by Kannur Dysp were camping in the area and the situation was brought under control, police said.
