Kasargod | Police team probing the murder of Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) activist C Narayanan taken into custody the key accused in the August 29 incident at Kodom Belur in this northernmost district of Kerala today.
Sources said Sreenath, who was under medical observation after the incident, was taken into custody for questioning in connection with the murder of the 42 year old activist.
As many as nine activists, including five CPI (M) and four BJP workers sustained stab wounds yesterday night in the clashes triggered between the two parties after the murder in the district.
Additional Director General of Police (North) N Shankar Reddy visited the trouble hit Kanhagad today.
Talking to media persons after the visit, he said additional police force has been deployed in the localities to prevent escalation of violence.
Narayanan’s brother Aravandan, who too sustained severe stab wounds, is undergoing treatment in a Mangluru hospital.
A BJP activist Abhilash was also killed on the same day allegedly by CPI (M) men in retaliatory attack at Vasapuram in Thrissur district erupting clashes between the two parties in many parts of the state, especially the politically sensitive Kannur and Kasargod district.
Many activists were killed in retaliatory attacks between the two parties in Kannur district alone during the last couple of years.
Meanwhile, the government has convened an all party meet at Kanhangad rest house find ways and means to resolve the crisis.
Representatives of all political parties are expected to attend, sources said.
