Rs 1 lakh aid to mother of 1965 Indo-Pak war victim after 50 years

Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala State Human Rights Commission has ordered the State Government to pay Rs one lakh as compensation to the mother of a Jawan, who sacrificed his life in the Indo-Pak war in 1965.
An official press release here today said KSHR Chairman J B Koshy has directed the Secretary, General Administration (Sainik Welfare), Kerala, to pay the compensation to Ms K Sarada, whose son M Sukumaran Nair died in the war 50 years ago.
Acting on her complaint, the Commission found that the she was given only Rs 1,000 as compensation by the State Government. Though the solatium was hiked to Rs 15,000 later, the authorities failed to provide proper compensation to the mother of the war victim.
Terming the inaction in this regard by the authorities as an insult to the family of war-victim, the Commission ordered the State Government to pay Rs one lakh as compensation to the mother of the Jawan with immediate effect.
