Coimbatore | Cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar today said it was unfortunate that India had become the world capital as far as the number of diabetes patients was concerned because of the people’s life style.
Distributing prizes to winners of the 12th ‘Gramothsavam’ rural sports, organised by Isha Foundation here, he said the people of the country should change their life style and should come out every day fora few hours to do small exercises.
He said he was able to see good sportsman spirit among the rural folk here and they were accepting the verdict of umpires. Sports is common for everyone and should unite every Indian, he said.
Sachin recalled that so many times he did not play well and only the affection for sports brought him back.. After seeing this success, he wanted to excel again.
A Rajya Sabha Member, Sachin said sports will foster the spirit of oneness. Once you stand together nobody can defeat you, he added. To play as a group. Once become group, there will not be any defeat. ‘Sports will also inculcate the spirit of sacrifice and if we start sacrificing in our life, we can live happily throughout our life’, he also averred.
Isha Yoga Center founder Jaggi Vasudev said two months back various sports competitions began all over Tamil Nadu in the rural areas on the eve of Gramothsavam. Volleyball for men and throwball for women, Kabadi and cricket competitions also were held. In these ecompetitions 7,680 players from 490 villages with 640 teams participated.
Earlier, Sachin arrived at Peelamedu Airport this morning and later left for Velliangiri foot hills where Isha Yoga center is situated. After prayers there, he left for the venue of the function. Later, he left for Kerala.
