Kozhikode | A man hailing from a tribal community in hilly Wayanad in Kerala has lodged a complaint against the health department for carrying out forcible sterilization on him at a health centre in the district.
In his complaint with Pulpally Police station, Chandran (30), son of Karuppan, of Pulamula tribal colony, said sterilization was carried out on him forcibly at Pulpally Community Health Centre on September 18, police said.
Health Inspector and tribal promoters in the locality took him to the centre on the pretext of blood test, he said in his complaint. They had also told Chandran, a divorcee, to admit that he already had two children making him eligible for sterilization.
Medical Superintendent of the Centre, however, said the man had given his consent in writing to undergo sterilization. In his consent letter, he had also said that he had two children and wanted to re-marry.
Stating that explanation has been sought from concerned doctor, he said action would be taken against defaulters if any anomaly was detected.
