Kalpetta | The Kerala Health Department today said it could not take action against officials in the alleged forcible vasectomy on a tribal youth in hilly Wayanad District of Kerala as the sterilization was carried out based on his consent.
The Wayanad District Medical Officer, after a preliminary inquiry, said there was no short coming on the part of the department as the vasectomy on Chandran (30), a native of Pulamoola Tribal Colony, was done on September 18 after getting his written consent.
The department sources said Chandran had approached Junior Health Inspector Pradeep Kumar for the purpose. However, the department admitted it was not aware that he had no children.
In his complaint with Pulpally Police Station, Chandran, son of  Karuppan,
alleged that sterilization was carried out  on him forcibly at Pulpally Community Health Centre on September 18, triggering a protest yesterday.
