New Delhi | The nation today paid rich tributes to ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi on his 146th birth anniversary. President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning led the nation in paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial Rajghat.
A prayer meeting was also organised on the occasion. Congress President Sonia Gandhi, veteran BJP leader L K Advani, Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Mahesh Sharma and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, were among the other dignitaries, who paid tributes to Gandhiji, called ‘Bapu’.
The Prime Minister reached Rajghat early morning and spent some time there. ”My heartfelt homage to Bapu,” the Prime Minister tweeted. Various programmes were organised throughout the country on the occasion.
The Centre had last year, on this day, commenced the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, which aims at construction of crores of toilets and cleaning cities, villages in five years.
