”Attack on women are increasing day by day. No law can do wonders. The attitude of the men and woman is to be changed to be seated women in safe zone”. Says Latika Subhash, KPCC General Secretary. According to her view women the status of women in Kerala has been subject to many great changes over the past few millennia.
“With a decline in their status from the ancient to medieval times, to the promotion of equal rights by many reformers, the history of women in India has been eventful. In modern India, women have held high offices. They attained self confidence too. Now a days they are much aware of their rights. The agitation of the women plantation workers of Munnar is the best example for this. This type of upliftment has happened in our society. It is a good sign.
“But the bitter fact is that most of the women are not much aware of their rights. This situation should be changed. The mentality of the man and woman should be changed to have a better social, economic life. The existing laws are inadequate to preserve the rights of ladies. New laws are emerging day by day. It is the responsibility of the society to work for women’s rights, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, politics etc.”.
Latika Subhash is a writer too. She has written two books, ‘Kadha Pole Jeevitham’, ‘Annarakkannanum Koottukarum’.
