Oommen Chandy has a rare visitor in his not so popular fan

It was just like a dream came true for Omanakutty Amma who hails from Chathannoor, Kollam. It was her long cherished dream to see the Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. At last, in her 87 years Omanakutty Amma got the opportunity to see him, on October 1 – World geriatric day. She saw him, talked to him, expressed her affection for him by giving him a kiss on his palm.
It was a much awaited moment in Omanakutty Amma’s life. Secretariat stood witness to this auspicious occasion. About 10 minutes she spent with the CM. She is short of words to describe her moments with Oommen Chandy. When her life’s wish came reality, her excitement was much higher that she could not utter a word of gratitude to him at the beginning. Chief Minister inquired about her health, family details etc.
Her grandchildren were accompanying her. Early morning at 6 o’clock she started her journey to cliff house. At 6.30, they reached there. But due to huge rush she had to wait a long time. She couldn’t even think of going back without seeing him. So she with her grandchildren went to secretariat. Even though Oommen Chandy was in the midst of huge crowd surrounded him, he could realize the long cherished wish of Omanakutty Amma and found out time to come greet her.
”Not much time to talk”. Oommen Chandy started to talk to her and he didn’t forget to invite her for a lunch with him on the next day October 2 ND, Gandhi Jayanthi. Omanakutty Amma didn’t expect or wish this invitation. She only wished to see him. She was the distinguished guest for the day. The employees of the secretariat also treated the rare guest well.
She has four daughters and five sons. All of them are communist supporters. Only Omanakutty Amma is an exception. She is a staunch supporter of congress party and their permanent voter. She likes to read newspapers and see news channels. ” By God’s grace I could see Oommen Chandy. Nothing more I want in this life. Omanakutty Amma says.
